You can take the girl out of Ballston Spa, but you can NEVER EVER take Ballston Spa out of the girl!
Mary was a kindergartener when she put down roots in Ballston Spa with her parents and nine older siblings in November 1968. Although just five years old at the time, she immediately fell in love with the charming village where just about everything was within walking distance of the family’s Victorian-era home. Mary remained under her parents’ roof until May 1982 when she married her husband Dave at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
The newlyweds first settled in Groton, Connecticut where Dave was stationed on the US naval base. After his honorable discharge from active military duty in late 1983, the couple returned to Ballston Spa with their infant son Nathaniel. In the years that followed, Mary and her family — which grew to include two more sons and a daughter; Matthew, Andrew and Caitlin — would move in and out of Ballston Spa several times, but ties to the village remained strong no matter their postal address.
So strong were Mary’s ties to the village, in fact, that no matter where her home office was situated, she enthusiastically assisted her journalist sister Ann with editorial and website projects, many of them focusing on the village’s heritage and history. (CLICK HERE to read Ann’s bio.)
The latest transplanting for Mary took place in 2014 when she and Dave relocated from Ballston Spa to New Hampshire. This move was motivated by a desire to be near Dave’s parents who had migrated there a few years earlier.
Mary looks forward to visiting Kids’ Creekside Village playground and Dakota Ridge Farm with her grandchildren in the near future as they are sure to enjoy these FUNtastic destinations located in Ballston Spa.
When not tackling Sister Act projects, Mary enjoys caring for her two pre-school granddaughters and infant grandson while their Mom works long hours in the healthcare industry. The little ones provide a constant source of inspiration and motivation for their nana, as well as a fair amount of exercise while trying to keep up with them. While her degree is in business, Mary enjoys graphic design as well as developing community websites for various Ballston Spa organizations, which she has been doing for over a decade. (CLICK HERE to discover how Mary played a volunteer role in helping FANS of Ballston Spa with its Kids’ Creekside Village playground construction effort.) In addition to www.BallstonSpaLiving.com, she also currently manages www.LegaciesUnlimited.com for her sister Ann. Other recent creations by Mary include a collection of holiday mugs and cards featuring whimsical renditions of snow-covered Ballston Spa landmarks which sold briskly at Brookside Museum’s Holiday Gift Shop during 2018 and 2019.
