Local families team up with the Ribbon Café

to raise money for childhood cancer research

Lemonade lovers longing for a refreshing way to celebrate the first official weekend of summer that will also aid a cause devoted to childhood cancer awareness, support and research will be able to do just that from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 3.

Joining the Ribbon Café on Prospect Street in hosting the event that will additionally include snack bar foods, music and more will be several local families who care deeply about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a national not-for-profit that emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004).

Alex was just four in 2000 when she announced she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has inspired thousands of supporters across the country to help carry on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c) 3 charity, has raised over $200 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 1,000 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. ABOUT THE RIBBON CAFÉ

The community-minded Ribbon Café on Prospect Street in Ballston Spa was founded in 2018 in honor of Jennifer Myers who passed away from breast cancer in September 2017. The dining destination continues to embrace and honor Jennifer’s memory through the dedication of chef/owner Kevin Myers. An award-winning chef and multiple time winner of various chowder festivals, Kevin is “devoted to making every customer part of the Ribbon Café family by making the restaurant a place to eat, hang out and make new memories.” In addition to providing a welcoming environment for all people, Kevin prepares meals for homebound cancer patients, and monthly proceeds from the restaurant go to support the Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center where his wife was treated.
